A native of Boise, Idaho, Hunter graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Political Science and minors in Research & Analysis and Creative Writing. While there, he worked as a teaching assistant for the statistics and analytical methods course in his major. He also served as a research assistant in the Political Science department, studying topics such as political polarization and Christian Zionism. 

Hunter joins Y2 after having spent two years at the Cato Institute. There, he produced a variety of national surveys on American civics and public policy. His work at Cato has appeared in outlets including NPR, PBS, and The Financial Times. His surveys have also been cited in reports and US Senate testimony by the Congressional Budget Office. 

Outside of work hours, Hunter is likely to be found either playing basketball, participating in a local choir, or writing. He serves as an editor for a sports blog in his hometown, where he covers his beloved Boise State Broncos.
